Parenting in Today's World - Parent Workshop Series

Dear Garden City Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. To those in our community observing Yom Kippur, I wish you a meaningful and peaceful day of reflection.  

Parenting has never been easy, but the challenges our children face today can make it especially difficult. Anxiety, technology and social media, friendships, organization and big emotions are all things our families are navigating.

This year, we are partnering with Long Island Counseling to offer Parenting in Today’s World, a series of virtual conversations for parents focused on these challenges. Our goal is simple, to provide parents with practical strategies and an opportunity to talk about issues that many of us are facing with our children (see attached).

Our first session will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. and will focus on Anxiety, Avoidance and the Urge to Rescue.

As parents, our instinct is often to step in when our children are struggling. Sometimes, though, allowing them to work through discomfort is an important part of helping them build confidence and resilience. This session will focus on how we can support our children without always rescuing them from difficult moments.

Future conversations will focus on executive functioning, technology and social media, friendships and social pressures, and big feelings and challenging behaviors.

I hope you will join us. These are important conversations, and I think there is value in learning together and sharing strategies that can help our children.
